Veloporter Sensor Delivers Wireless Virtual Cycling Experience for Mobile Devices

The Veloporter fitness sensor helps create entirely new experiences for indoor cycling workouts by teleporting users to the Moon with the MoonCyclist VR app.

The Veloporter sensor is a new compact, wireless fitness device designed to deliver a unique virtual reality experience for indoor exercise bikes. Combined with MoonCyclist, one of the first apps to gamify indoor cycling workouts with virtual technology that transports cyclists to other worlds, the sensor has the potential to become a powerful tool for transforming indoor cycling into an entirely different kind of adventure. All users need to take their workouts to the Moon is a stationary bike and a VR headset for iPhone or Android phones. The sensor is compatible with any system that is Bluetooth 4.0 Smart/LE enabled and the system offers the best experience when used with the Samsung Gear VR headset.

MoonCyclists, the first app developed for the Veloporter system, lets users experience low-gravity racing as they explore the lunar landscape. Other games will be available down the line and a development kit will soon be released for developers to start creating their own games, apps and experiences compatible with the system.

The Veloporter sensor itself is affordable and developed specifically to make VR experiences easily accessible to anyone with a smartphone. Users can simply place the phone inside a VR headset and clip the sensor to their shoe or sock to start their virtual workout. The sensor wirelessly transmits users' pedalling speed into a VR app running on the phone while the phone sits inside the VR goggles.

Veloporter works with a wide range of stationary bikes and indoor trainers, but for safety reasons it should only be used with sturdy equipment that maintains balance at all times and can be operated while wearing the VR headset.

Veloporter was developed by Sanctuary Media, a small company based in Napa, California, that specializes in creating innovative technologies, including virtual reality, mobile apps and electronics for fitness, education, simulations and games. The Veloporter sensor is currently a functional prototype in the pre-production phase. The company plans to raise the required funds for production in a crowdfunding campaign this year.
