CES 2018 Innovation Awards Honoree Black Box VR will present its revolutionary VR gym system and virtual eSports at the world's largest consumer electronics trade fair in Las Vegas.

Virtual reality fitness pioneer Black Box VR will present its innovative VR gym system and virtual eSport at the 2018 CES, which runs from January 9 to 12 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Black Box challenges users' speed, agility, balance and strength in a fun virtual environment, leveraging the appeal of video games to deliver real, physical workouts that engage both the body and the mind. All a user has to do is step into the Black Box training room and attach hands-free controller wraps to each wrist to immerse himself in intense physical gameplay. With the controller wraps, the user's hands are free to move, perform various exercises and interact with the virtual world, or to hold resistance handles if the user wants to make the training session more challenging.

Founded by the team that built Bodybuilding.com into the world's largest online supplement retailer and created the world's largest fitness social network, Black Box VR is dedicated to developing cutting-edge products and experiences that facilitate and inspire a lasting change in people's lives. The company's VR gym is the product of two years of research and collaboration with fitness and gaming industry veterans, who sought to apply the enormous appeal of virtual reality and computer games to transform the experience of results-driven exercise and competitive eSports.

Black Box VR, combined with a head-mounted display, allows users to choose their own fitness experience based on their goals and fitness level. The addictive, gamified experiences harness the appeal of immersive technologies, while the platform’s rep reading feature helps prevent injury and overuse. The platform is suitable for a diverse demographic, but the core age group focuses on adults aged 25 to 40 looking to improve their overall fitness and health, who enjoy playing games and want effective and data-driven workouts to keep them engaged.

In November 2017, Black Box VR was named a CES 2018 Innovation Awards Honoree for its revolutionary resistance-based virtual reality fitness experience. The company has created the first ever fully automated cable resistance machine that integrates VR hardware and virtual eSport software powered by HTC Vive. The patent-pending Dynamic Resistance Machine was specifically developed to deliver real resistance in an online environment. It calibrates the user's height and prescribes resistance based on his fitness level and goals. The machine runs through the game engine and responds to the user's gameplay, changing the weight and angles of tension to keep the user fully immersed in the game at all times.

The CES Innovation Awards panel brings together independent engineers, industrial designers and members of the trade media to judge and select the most innovative products each year. The awards were established to honour outstanding engineering and design in consumer electronic products across 28 different categories. The entries are rated on design, engineering and aesthetic qualities, as well as intended use, user value, innovative features and how they stand in comparison to similar products on the market. The products selected as CES Innovation Honorees represent unique, innovative accomplishments in design and engineering, and help pave the way for the future.
